The opening of both routes in Pujut Section since February 2021 has now given a lot of convenience to road users.

MIRI, May 29: The traffic situation in the Pujut Section under Sarawak Pan Borneo Highway Project has become smoother and provides driving comfort to its users since its opening in February this year.

Beginning its construction in 2016, the 16-kilometre section was one of the three sections under the Work Package Contract 11 (WPC11).

The other two sections under this package are the Beluru Section and the Lambir Section, which are still under construction.

“The scope of construction under the Pujut Section also includes the construction of two flyovers, namely the Miri Airport flyover and Pujut Link flyover as well as two bridges, namely the Sungai Adong and Sungai Miri bridges.

“The high traffic rate as the location of this stretch is close to the city is one of the main challenges in ensuring the construction work runs smoothly without compromising the comfort and safety of users at the same time,” said Siaw Ming Chian, North Zone manager of Pan Borneo Highway Unit (PBHU), Sarawak Public Works Department (PWD) in a statement today.

The condition of the Sungai Adong Bridge, Miri which has now been completed.

Meanwhile, for construction work near Miri Airport, he said the contractor complied with the rules set by the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) by ensuring that work involving the installation of beams and piling is only allowed to be done at night.

“The Covid-19 pandemic has greatly affected the progress of construction work, especially in terms of the shortage of the number of foreign labor,” he said.

He also reminded the public to always drive carefully and comply with the speed limit that has been set in the effort of the contractor to actively carry out construction work. — DayakDaily
