Smoked ‘lumek’ delight: Deputy minister rep gifts coastal favourite to Premier, reps, heads of depts

KUCHING, May 27: For fans of traditional Sarawakian cuisine—especially dishes from the coastal regions—the rich, savoury taste of smoked ‘lumek’ fish is a familiar favourite and is synonymous with Pulau Bruit.

According to the Sarawak Public Communication Unit (UKAS), Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Corporate Affairs and UKAS), Datuk Abdullah Saidol, purchased approximately 200kg of the product to be distributed to all elected representatives and heads of departments present for the Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUS) sitting which is in its seventh day today.

In addition to presenting the smoked ‘lumek’ fish to elected representatives and department heads, the Semop assemblyman also gifted it to Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, who is known to count it among his favourite dishes.

The market price for the smoked ‘lumek’ is between RM80 and RM100 per kilogramme, depending on the quality.
