Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg officiated the launch and witnessed the exchange of the MoUs, alongside Richard Shaddick, senior delivery manager for Inward Investment of the Welsh government.

According to Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas), the first MoU involves collaboration with Camutronics, XFAB Dresden Foundry, and CSA Catapult UK for the development of GaN HEMT technology.

The second MoU engages Sarawak Energy Berhad, 5G3i, and CSA Catapult for the development of the keteq.ai power converter, which is currently undergoing international copyright registration.

In his speech, Abang Johari emphasised that the launch marks a new level of expertise in the semiconductor field, particularly with the introduction of Gallium Nitride power devices capable of withstanding high temperatures.

“Today, we witness a new milestone in semiconductor expertise with our partners: the keteq.GaN technology using Gallium Nitride.

“It withstands high temperatures, enabling data and information to be stored on wafers with high energy efficiency. This represents a new method of data storage and solutions for growing data needs, placing Sarawak at a highly competitive level in the global semiconductor industry,” he said.

He also stressed the importance of innovation and cross-border collaboration to strengthen Sarawak’s global position.

“Our continued collaboration fosters new technologies that improve production efficiency and yield innovative products. I am delighted that this achievement is the result of combined efforts from experts, suppliers, and SMD from Sarawak working in a unified ecosystem.

“This global network of partnerships will drive technological development, reduce carbon emissions, and build a greener working environment,” he added.

The launch demonstrates that Sarawak is not merely a participant in the global semiconductor value chain but has emerged as a leader in technological innovation and the green economy, aligning with the State’s goal of becoming a globally competitive semiconductor hub.

Also present at the event were Deputy Premier of Sarawak and Minister of International Trade, Industry and Investment Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan; Minister of Public Works Malaysia Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi; Sarawak Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki; Sarawak Financial Secretary Dato Sri Dr Wan Lizozman Wan Omar; Deputy Minister of Utilities (Sarawak Energy and Petros) Dato Ibrahim Baki; Deputy Minister of Education, Innovation, and Talent Development Datuk Dr Annuar Rapaee; Deputy Secretary (Economic Planning and Development) Dato Sri Dr Muhammad Abdullah Zaidel; SMD Semiconductor CEO Shariman Jamil; and CSA Catapult CEO Raj Gawera. — DayakDaily
