KUCHING, Jan 11: Public libraries, swimming pools and sports facilities under Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) are to be closed effective immediately until further notice.
Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) chairman Clarence Ting said the temporary closures of these facilities is to prevent a further outbreak of Covid-19 in Sibu seeing that the district is now a Covid-19 red zone.
The closure includes the public library at Jalan Keranji, Grand Height Library at Jalan Mantis, Sukun Library, Delta Swimming Pool, Bukit Lima Swimming Pool and the Teku Multipurpose Hall.
Other sports facilities that are instructed to stop operation are the Penjara Field at Jalan Awg Ramli Amit, basketball courts at Jalan Merlin and the Hing Hua Memorial Square.
“Please be informed that all facilities listed which are under the purview of Sibu Municipal Council will be closed for usage or booking for any activities starting from Jan 11, 2021 until further notice,” Ting said in a Facebook post today.
Adding on, Ting noted 20 public parks under SMC would not be closed to the public but strict Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and the 3C Concept to avoid Crowded places, Confined spaces and Close conversation must be observed.
No gatherings are allowed as only individual light exercise will be allowed. At the same time, any usage of the council parks during these times is strictly at the users’ own risk. — DayakDaily
