SIBU, April 21: Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) is appealing the public to report any acts of vandalism that occurs in its jurisdiction.

Its deputy chairman, councilor Mohamed Abdullah Izkandar Rosely, said this following the incident where rubbish bins were deliberately set on fire behind the Post Office at Jalan Kampung Nyabor yesterday.

He said that the bins belonged to the council and are public property that must be taken care of.

According to him, quick action by the Sibu Fire and Rescue Department stopped the fire from spreading and making the situation even worse.

“I would like to thank the Fire Department for their immediate action to put out the fire at one of the MPS Garbage Bin centers located behind the Sibu Post Office,” he said.

“This act is unacceptable and I believe the people of Sibu are a civilized society.

“Garbage bins are provided for the convenience of the public, especially shop owners or shop lot occupants to dispose of their rubbish,” he stressed. — DayakDaily
