KUCHING, March 29: Sarawak Multimedia Authority (SMA) had implemented the QR wristband system on March 27.
According to SMA, the system was launched at Kuching International Airport (KIA) on the same day as the implementation system was announced and had tagged over more than 300 passengers over a two-day period.
All passengers travelling on a total of three airlines flying into KIA had been tagged at the immigration clearance counter.
SMA is now taking steps in deploying the systems at all of Sarawak’s Points of Entry (POEs).
On March 28, a DayakDaily reporter visited KIA but did not witness wristbands being placed on passengers.
The reporter had queried an officer at the entry point but was told to proceed to the airport’s information counter as they did not know about the implementation of the system.
The operator later told the reporter that they also did not know about the system and had asked the reporter to contact Ministry of Health (MoH) Sarawak for more information.
After a number of attempts to contact the MoH Sarawak hotline, the reporter managed to get through to request for more information about the QR wristband and was asked to contact SMA hotline for information.
The SMA hotline operator subsequently informed the reporter that the system was still being set up and the system will be completed in one week’s time. — DayakDaily
