KUCHING, Nov 18: More than 400,000 households in Sarawak are now within Telekom Malaysia (TM) Sarawak’s infrastructure reach through their 84 nodes statewide.

Sarawak Multimedia Authority (SMA) in a statement today said during a recent quarterly update meeting between SMA and TM Sarawak, TM Sarawak revealed that approximately 80 per cent of those households can be connected by their fiber broadband infrastructure that supports high-speed internet access.

“At the same time, 65 out of the 82 State Legislative Assembly (DUN) constituencies have been served with high-speed internet service while 11 more constituencies are expected to enjoy the service at the end of this year and more expansion has also been planned for the year 2022,” it said.

Meanwhile, commenting on the engagement session between both parties, SMA general manager Dr Zaidi Razak said the engagement session with TM Sarawak was a good practice as it provides a platform for the industry player to share on the updates and progress regarding their internet connectivity project throughout Sarawak.

“We value engagement sessions like this, and it is a good practice that should be replicated by other industry players.

“This is because cooperation and collaboration are pertinent in achieving the shared aspiration of fully digitalising Sarawak,” he said.

Among the matters discussed during the meeting were how TM Sarawak bridges communities and businesses, quick updates, and upcoming plans as well as its Fiberisation agenda in supporting the National Digital Infrastructure Plan (Jendela) as well as Sarawak Digital Agenda. — DayakDaily
