KUCHING, May 9: The damaged SK Puruh Karu at Jalan Borneo Heights is expected to be fully repaired by February next year, with RM2 million allocated for the restoration work.

In stating this, Deputy Minister of Transport (Aviation and Roads) Datuk Dr Jerip Susil said the repair funding comes from the Greater Kuching Coordinated Development Agency (GKCDA).

He explained that the school was damaged in 2023 due to the slope erosion, resulting in the relocation of 84 students to a nearby SK Taba Sait.

Dr Jerip clarified that the decision to relocate these students were made by the Public Works Department (JKR) after they deemed the school building structurally unsafe. Transportation for the students were also arranged by Yayasan Sarawak.

“Public Works Department (JKR) is putting in RM800,000 to carry out the slope repair.

“And a contractor for the project (SK Puruh Karu) has been appointed with the allocation from GKCDA and is scheduled for completion in Feb 2026,” Dr Jerip said last night (May 9) during a pre-Gawai Dayak gathering at Kpg Emperoh Karu.

In other developments, Dr Jerip, who is also Mambong assemblyman, said the whole of Jalan Borneo Heights will be illuminated with the installation of new street lights extending all the way to Kpg Kampung Anah Rais.

He also noted that the project is under GKCDA, which comes in three phases.

He detailed that RM3 million was allocated under Phase I up to Kpg Emperoh Gerung, while Phase II until Kpg Anah Rais is still under assessment.

Dr Jerip further said that the Phase III of the project will cover the villages in the constituency. – DayakDaily
