KUCHING, March 6: Construction of SK Sri Sadong, Serian is currently put on hold as the project is awaiting approval from the Procurement Board for new tender based on current cost.
According to Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek, the project was approved in the 11th Malaysia Plan (11MP) Rolling Plan 1 (RP1) Year 2016 at a cost of RM22.98 million.
“However, there is an increase in cost for the implementation of this project because the tender’s price offered has exceeded the project cost
“Accordingly, the Procurement Board which convened on Dec 28, 2022, has postponed the decision of this tender until the cost increase is approved or the scope be reduced based on the existing cost,” said Fadhlina.
She added that the Ministry of Education (MOE) is currently in the final process of submitting documents to increase the cost of the project.
On the same note, Fadhlina said MOE has approved a land acquisition project for the new SMK Serian 2 in the 12the Malaysia Plan (12MP) RP2 Year 2022.
“MOE is currently processing preliminary work which involves getting feedback from technical agencies as well as preparing a land acquisition plan,” she said.
Meanwhile, she said MOE has also submitted an application for the Serian District Education Office (PPD) new building project for approval at the federal level in the 12MP RP3 Year 2023.
The approval and implementation of this project, she pointed out is subject to the government’s current financial priorities.
Fadhlina was answering questions raised by Serian MP Dato Sri Richard Riot Jaem in Dewan Rakyat today.
