BINTULU, Oct 24: A total of 171 pupils were affected by flood that hit SK Kampung Nyalau, here, amid the heavy rainfall this morning.
Schooling session had to be cancelled after the school was inundated by three feet of water.
According to the Samalaju Fire and Rescue Department, the flood was caused by the rising water level from the Nyalau River since yesterday evening.
“Due to the heavy rain, the road entrance to the school was flooded, which would be dangerous if parents were to send their children to attend their schooling session,” the department said in a statement.
Also affected were the headmaster and teachers quarters, academic block and school administrative building.
“However, the school building is in good and stable condition, and all the teaching equipment including desk and tables have been kept in high places,” the statement continued.
It said that the teachers and non-academic staff are in standby for any eventuality. — DayakDaily
