Meanwhile, Kuching South City Council (MBKS) Mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng highlighted this year’s event attracted the highest number of participants ever, with 292 participants from 35 schools, and the increase in participants is due to more people being aware of the importance of sports for children’s development.

He added that improved facilities and coaching have encouraged more students to take up swimming.

Wee also stressed the importance and the crucial roles of sponsors like Nestle and organisations like Amateur Swimming Association Sarawak and the Sarawak Sports Corporation in supporting PASC to make the competition more successful.

“More schools and parents are aware of the benefits of swimming competitions. These benefits include helping children make friends and learn social skills and boost children’s personal growth in self-confidence and a sense of achievement,” he said in his speech before presenting prizes to the winners.

Wee pointed out that competition is not about winning, but athletes’ efforts and sportsmanship that are much needed to make a successful event.

“Let us continue to encourage healthy competition and strive for excellence. We can help our young swimmers excel in sports and grow into well-rounded individuals,” he said.
