KUCHING, Dec 6: It will be a six-cornered fight for Tanjong Batu with one independent candidate joining the fray in the 12th Sarawak Election.

The six candidates who made their way with their nomination papers together with their respective proposers and seconders this morning were ruled successful in their nominations by the returning officer at Bangunan Wisma Bintulu.

Chiew Chiu Sing from Democratic Action Party (DAP) won the Tanjong Batu seat in 2016 but decided not to defend the seat in this election.

Chiew’s son Tony Chan Yew (DAP) is set to face off against five others namely Nicholas Tang Eng Hui (Parti Sarawak Bersatu), Johnny Pang Leong Ming (Gabungan Parti Sarawak), Yek Hock Siang (Parti Bumi Kenyalang), Chieng Lea Phing (Sarawak People’s Aspiration Party) and Wong Hau Ming (independent)

In 2016, Chiew won in the 11th Sarawak Election after gaining 7,984 votes against Barisan Nasional’s direct candidate Datuk Pau Chiong Ung (5,436) and State Reform Party (Star)’s Chieng Lea Phing (89). — DayakDaily
