Six men arrested for alleged cable theft in Kuching after video goes viral

KUCHING, July 18: Police have arrested six local men, aged between 25 and 35, believed to be involved in a recent cable theft incident at Jalan Kunchit, Kuching.

Padawan District Police Chief Supt Mohd Irwan Hafiz Md Radzi in a statement today, said the case came to light after a 12-second video showing the theft was widely circulated on social media around 2.30pm on July 17, 2025.

Acting swiftly, a team from the Criminal Investigation Division of Padawan District Police Headquarters (IPD Padawan) conducted intelligence gathering and surveillance on the same day between 8pm and midnight.

The operation led to the arrest of the six suspects, along with the seizure of four vehicles and tools believed to have been used to cut cables.

All suspects are being remanded to assist in investigations. The case is being investigated under Section 379 of the Penal Code for theft.

Police have reminded the public to refrain from spreading unverified information on social media and to immediately report any suspicious activities to the authorities. – DayakDaily
