SIBU, Aug 14: A pasar tamu for all races on a 1.25-acre plot of land has been proposed for Kampung Sentosa.
Bukit Assek assemblyman Joseph Chieng said the site was chosen by the Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK) of Kampung Usahajaya Baru, Sentosa, Salim.
“After studying the proposal with the local council and the Land and Survey Department, we found that the site is suitable as it is located in the middle of Kampung Sentosa and also along the main road of the village and close to Jalan Bukit Lima Timur,” he told reporters after accompanying Deputy Premier Dato Sri Dr Sim Kui Hian on a visit to the proposed project site today.
Chieng noted that the location has great potential as a site for business and commerce.
“As the site is located on low and submerged land, the cost of construction should come from the allocation of the People’s Project. This is because we need proper and orderly construction so that the market will not sink in the future,” he stressed.
The project would include ample car parking space.
The market, once completed, is expected to open up economic opportunities for local residents to generate income, he added.
Meanwhile, Chieng said he had also brought Dr Sim to the village to meet the residents to hear of their problems.
“His visit does not only involve this project but also listening to the people’s problems such as flooding due to weak drainage systems. We will find a way to solve the problem,” he added.
Also accompanying Dr Sim was Deputy Minister of Public Health, Housing and Local Government, Michael Tiang and Sibu Municipal Council chairman Clarence Ting. ā DayakDaily
