KUCHING, Feb 10: Love is in the air at Malaysia-China Friendship Park (Taman Sahabat) this Chap Goh Mei, as Kuching South City Council (MBKS) and Midin Media Sdn Bhd invite singles to find romance at the Love Blooms event, happening from Feb 11 to 14, from 5pm to 9pm.
Designed to celebrate the traditions of Chap Goh Mei—widely regarded as the Chinese Valentine’s Day—Love Blooms offers a vibrant mix of cultural performances, matchmaking activities, and social gatherings.
Kuching South Mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng shared that dedicated staff will assist in matchmaking efforts.
“The staff will ask about your ideal partner and search within the area to find a potential match,” he said during a press conference held at MBKS today.
He added that matchmaking efforts might be livestreamed on MBKS’s official Facebook page, though this is subject to change.
Key highlights of Love Blooms include the traditional Mandarin Orange Tossing, where singles write messages on oranges before tossing them into a designated area, hoping to attract a potential match.
Other attractions include matchmaking booths, lion and dragon dance performances, a grand fireworks display, and a Chinese orchestra performance.
Adding to the festive cheer, the Foochow Association Kuching is sponsoring 300 angpows for children on Feb 12, ensuring a memorable experience for families attending the event.
Wee extended an open invitation to the public, saying, “Whether you are looking for love, spending time with family, or simply enjoying the cultural performances, Love Blooms has something for everyone. Come and be part of this special Chap Goh Mei celebration at Malaysia-China Friendship Park.”
The main sponsor of the event is CHAGEE Milk Tea.
Also present at the press conference were Foochow Association Kuching chairman Datuk Yii Chi Hau, Midin Media Sdn Bhd director Vincent Toh, and MBKS councillor Sufian Ateng. — DayakDaily
