SIBU, Feb 18: Police arrested a 35-year-old single mother for allegedly abusing her two-year-old daughter at a rented house in Lorong Chew Siik Hiong 1A.

On December 2 last year, the complainant had requested her aunt to take the victim from the care of her biological mother at the rented house.

When the aunt arrived, she found the toddler crying and took her away.

According to Sibu District Police Chief ACP Stanley Jonathan, the aunt claimed that at that time, she saw bruises on the victim’s cheeks and forehead but the complainant did not go to the police then as she was not sure of the procedure. The single mother had also claimed that the bruises happened when the victim had fallen down.

However, the victim had not been cared for by the suspect since December.

It is understood the victim was the result of the suspect’s relationship with the suspect’s ex-boyfriend who is also the complainant’s brother.

Stanley disclosed the suspect was a widow before getting acquainted with the complanant’s brother in 2017. They were in a relationship until the suspect gave birth to the victim.

The couple went their separate ways after the boyfriend was jailed for one year.

Stanley also revealed the toddler had been examined by a specialist doctor today but no injuries were detected as the alleged abuse had happened some time ago.

The case is being investigated under Section 31(1) (a) of the Child Act 2001. — DayakDaily
