Single father fined RM24,000 for abusing daughter and son

SIBU, Sept 13: A single father has been fined a total of RM24,000 by the Sessions Court here today after he pleaded guilty to abusing his two children.

The accused has an eight-year-old daughter and a 12-year-old son.

The accused, 43, who was unrepresented, was charged under Section 31 (1) (A) of Child Act 2011 (Amendment 2016) which provides for a fine of up to RM50,000 and liable to an imprisonment term not exceeding 20 years, or both, if convicted.

According to the facts of the case, at about 8.30am on August 8, the headmaster of a primary school in Jalan Ulu Sungai Merah was informed by his assistant student welfare officer and a counselling teacher that the two children were absent from school.

The trio then went to the victims’ house at Jalan Ulu Sungai Merah where they found the children had bruises on their hands and thighs.

A police report was subsequently lodged. The accused was arrested on the same day.

A police investigation revealed that the accused had beaten the two victims. — DayakDaily
