INDONESIA, Oct 31: Singapore will establish consular premises in Kuching to increase bilateral trade between the two parties, says Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

He said the decision was made during the 10th Singapore-Malaysia Leaders’ Retreat yesterday (Oct 30), Sarawak Public Communications Unit (UKAS) reported.

“This means that (Singapore-Sarawak) relations will be enhanced with the existence of the Consulate General of the Republic of Singapore located in Kuching.

“I also discussed with the Minister of Transport Anthony Loke when in Singapore about the proposal to consider our airline MASwings to fly to Singapore,” he said at a press conference after a bilateral meeting with International Hydropower Association (IHA) president Malcolm Turnbull in conjunction with 2023 World Hydropower Congress in Bali, Indonesia today.

Abang Johari also said that this effort will strengthen Sarawak’s tourism industry, especially the influx of visitors from Singapore and also tourists arriving in Singapore from the State.

Also present during the press conference were Sarawak’s Minister of Utility and Telecommunication Dato Sri Julaihi Narawi, Sarawak Economic Development Corporation (SEDC) chairman Tan Sri Datuk Amar Abdul Aziz Husain and Sarawak Energy Berhad chief executive officer Datu Sharbini Suhaili. — DayakDaily
