KUCHING, May 18: Simunjan assemblyman Awla Dris has urged authorities to take action against the many businesses in the Simunjan District that engage in online gambling.

Awla emphasised that the involvement of Simunjan communities and youths in drug recruitment and online gambling is a major concern.

“This drug and online gambling problem is worsening among youths in Simunjan, and I hope that the authorities and law enforcement agencies will take action against the premises and businesses that conduct online gambling activities in the District,” he said during his debate on the TYT’s speech at the Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting here today.

He also mentioned that there is a gambling establishment in the village and that there has been no action taken to close it, even though it is only 2 to 3 kilometres from Simunjan Police Station.

“Besides that, some people work actively as gambling and drug agents. I’m concerned that this harmful activity will worsen until it leads to criminal and social problems in society,” he added. — DayakDaily
