Silver lining in Kabong and Lawas as Sarawak sees 454 new Covid-19 cases in 24 districts

KUCHING, May 9: Sarawak recorded 454 new Covid-19 cases across 24 districts today, while Kabong and Lawas regained their Covid-19 green zone status.

According to a report by the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) today, the two districts improved from yellow zones after recording zero local cases in the past 14 days.


That, the committee said, boosted the number of Covid-19 green zones in Sarawak from zero over the past few days to two.

The number of Covid-19 yellow zones, on the other hand, dropped to 10 districts while there are 27 red zones and one orange zone remaining.

On the new cases of the day, SDMC said 273 or 60.13 per cent of the total comprised cases detected in Sibu (72), Bintulu (65), Miri (59), Pakan (41) and Sarikei (36).

The other districts reporting new Covid-19 infections were Kuching (35), Meradong (30), Selangau (24), Kanowit (16), Serian (14), Pusa (11), Kapit (10), Betong (8), Lundu (7), Bau (5), Tebedu (4), Subis (4), Samarahan (3) Julau, (3), Lawas (2), Saratok (2), Daro (1), Sri Aman (1) and Tatau (1).

With this, the cumulative number of Covid-19 cases in Sarawak has increased to 35,160.

Of the 454 cases, 329 were individual screenings who had close contact with Covid-19 patients, with 16 of them symptomatic.

Meanwhile, 52 cases were individual screenings from existing active clusters where only one of them showed signs and symptoms of Covid-19.

Another 34 cases involved symptomatic screenings at health facilities, 30 cases were other types of screenings at health facilities and nine were Import-B cases who just returned from other states in Malaysia.

Following 497 new recoveries at various hospitals reported today, there are 6,489 more Covid-19 patients still receiving treatment and in isolation. — DayakDaily
