BINTULU, Dec 4: Assistant Minister in the Chief Minister’s Department (Sarawak Bumiputera Law and Customs) Datuk John Sikie Tayai asserts that Tatau must have a unique signature product as the town’s identity that they can sell to a wider market.

Speaking to 150 participants at the Agriculture Community Outreach (Agrocorp) programme at Dewan Sukan Tatau today, he said, the people in Tatau district should make products, create a brand and commercialise them to increase their household income.

He added, with the ‘signature’ product produced by Tatau folks, it would indirectly help introduce and promote the town to outsiders.

“Be creative and innovative, adapt to a new way of life in selling products to help increase household income,” he opined.

Sikie also stressed on the crucial need of empowering women in Tatau district through handicraft skills to improve their income.

“I believed by providing alternative livelihood skills training, they can contribute to their households income,” Sikie who is also Kakus assemblyman pointed out.

He observed, women in Tatau are very much talented in handicraft making, thus he felt that this is one of the opportunities that they can explore further, with a view to commercialise it.

At the programme, Sikie also presented 600 durian seeds to 15 longhouses within Kakus constituency. — DayakDaily
