SIBU, Sept 3: The SibuJaya Motocross Challenge is back with over 100 participants from throughout the State getting down and dirty on their machines.

Speaking at the flag-off of the event today, Sibu Rural District Council chairman Petrus Ngalai said after talking to Amcorp which is the developer of SibuJaya, the two-day event came to fruition.

“We used to have this event but it was stopped during the pandemic. This time we have about 100 participants coming from Kuching, Sibu, Miri, Bintulu and elsewhere in the State,” he said.

The event which is one of the attractions as part of the SibuJaya Carnival 2022 aims to provide a platform for motocross enthusiasts to race at a proper venue and dirt track.

“This event gives positive impact as bike enthusiasts can race on a proper track rather than on public roads,” he said.

The motocross track in SibuJaya is one of the best in the State, he said.

“We hope the track will stay in good condition so that we can organise more races here,” he added.

Meanwhile, Dudong assemblyman Dato Sri Tiong King Sing praised the SibuJaya Township for coming up with the motocross circuit.

Lauding the township’s developer Amcorp SibuJaya for stepping forward and helping to build the temporary circuit and the event organiser GP SibuJaya Extreme
Motorsports Club for working to bring the event to life, Tiong said he will continue giving his support for such community-based events.

His text of speech which was read out by Councillor Joshua Ting also highlighted the deeper significance behind the creation of such a circuit for motocross enthusiasts.

“I am certainly hopeful that with the presence of such a track, motocross enthusiasts would be able to do their part as well in dispelling the notion that motorbikes are usually associated with unsavoury activities such as illegal racing and the likes,” he said.

There was no excuse for youth to indulge in illegal racing, if they have within their reach circuits or tracks to use.

“Do it properly. Do it legally. Safety first and learn the sport in the right way,” he
added. — DayakDaily
