KUCHING, July 20: A storekeeper in Sibu lost RM101,200 to an online investment scam on Facebook.
According to Sarawak police commissioner Dato Mohd Azman Ahmad Sapri, the victim, a 25-year-old man, after seeing the investment advertisement on Facebook on May 30, called the WhatsApp number provided and made contact with a suspect who walked him through how to make the said investment.
Mohd Azman said apart from that, the victim was also told of high returns based on the value of investment made.
“He then was told to download “PSLUS” application through Google Playstore to enable him to make the investment and then made 11 money transaction amounting to RM101,2000 to six different bank accounts from June until July.
“The victim only realised that he was scammed after not getting the return as promised by the suspect, and he made a police report regarding the matter,” he added.
Mohd Azman said the case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code.
He also advised members of the public to make investments only on valid platforms registered with Bank Negara Malaysia and Securities Commission Malaysia. — DayakDaily
