Sibu shooting: 46yo man stable as police investigate motive, hunt for suspect

SIBU, Oct 25: The police have not made any arrests after a 46-year-old man was shot at close range at Lane 21, Jalan Wong King Huo.

Sibu District Police chief ACP Zulkipli Suhaili reported that the victim is currently in stable condition and receiving treatment at a local private hospital.

“The victim’s condition is stable after treatment.

“The police are actively investigating the motive behind the attack. So far, we are still investigating,” he told reporters today, declining to comment further.

Additionally, it is understood that roadblocks have been set up in an effort to track down the suspect.

The incident occurred around 2pm while the victim was waiting to pick up his son from school. He was seated in the driver’s seat when an unidentified armed individual approached and shot him before fleeing the scene.

Following the attack, the victim managed to open his car door to call for help before collapsing in the nearby bushes.

Zulkipli stated that the case is being investigated under Section 307 of the Penal Code for attempted murder, which provides for a prison term of up to 10 years and a fine. If the act causes injury, the sentence can extend up to 20 years. — DayakDaily
