SIBU, Aug 28: A  total of 183 people in Sibu had succumbed to Covid-19 from January to Aug 28, 2021.

According to the breakdown, there were 15 deaths in January followed with 33 in Feb, March with 17, April (22), May (33), June (36), July (21) and Aug (6).

Sibu Divisional Disaster Management Committee coordinator Dr Annuar Rapaee, in revealing this on his Facebook livestream today, said the high death rate in February was due to the Pasai Cluster.

“The highest was in June of 36 deaths. However the number of fatalities started to drop after that due to active vaccination being carried out,” he said.

The Nangka assemblyman pointed out that although this week, which is Week 34, saw an increase of cases at 665, the number of deaths was low at six only as the majority of cases were Category 1 (asymptomatic) and Category 2 (mild symptom).

On the spike of cases this week, he attributed them to infection at the workplace with the positive cases then spreading it among their family members.

On the 147 cases reported in Sibu district today, he said 83 of them or 56.5 per cent were Category 1  cases. For  Category 2, there were 62 cases or 42.1 per cent and Category 3 and 5 with one case each or 0.7 per cent. — DayakDaily
