Sibu reclaims top spot as Sarawak registers 251 cases, one death

KUCHING, March 15: Sibu reclaims top spot as the district with the most number of Covid-19 infections in Sarawak today after reporting 65 new cases while the state registered 251 cases of coronavirus and one death today.

The Sibu district recorded the most cases last Friday but Miri and Bintulu took over as the districts with the most number of Covid-19 infections in the past two days.


According to a press statement from the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) today, Sibu reported 65 Covid-19 cases followed by Miri (40), Bintulu (36), Betong (23), Kuching (22), Julau (21), Song (14), Kapit (8), Subis (8), Bau (4), Meradong (4), Sarikei (3), Samarahan (2) and Serian (1).

The 251 new cases have increased the number of confirmed Covid-19 cases in Sarawak to 12,702.

For the cases in Sibu, 45 out of the 65 cases were derived from active case detection to positive cases and 18 cases were from individualĀ screenings at the healthcare centre in Sibu.

There was one case identified from symptomatic screening and one imported case from an individual who returned from Kuala Lumpur.

On another note, there was one fatality which involved a 64 year-old woman from Kapit.

SDMC said the victim was tested positive for Covid-19 on Feb 25 and subsequently her health condition deteriorated and passed away yesterday.

The additional death has brought the death toll due to Covid-19 in Sarawak to 91 persons.

Meanwhile, there were 211 Covid-19 patients who recovered and were discharged from hospitals.

In spite of that, a total of 2,367 Covid-19 patients are still being treated in hospitals and low risk quarantine centres across the state.

There were 256 new cases of Person-Under-Investigation (PUI) identified and two PUI cases are awaiting the results of their Covid-19 swab test. ā€” DayakDaily
