SIBU, May 26: Those who intend to enter this town have been advised not to take any chances as the police have closed all access into Sibu.

Sibu district police chief, ACP Stanley Jonathan Ringgit in confirming this said policemen manning roadblocks during this conditional Movement Control Order (MCO) will immediately ask motorists who have no valid travel permit to turn back.

“We have set up roadblocks at all entry points. In Jalan Paradom, for example, we will ensure that those without the travel permit will not be able to pass through to the town. Instead we will ask them to turn back,” he said.

The move he said was to prevent the outbreak of Covid-19.

During this festive season, ACP Stanley said his department had also conducted operations on business premises pertaining to their compliance to the standard operating procedure set by the Health Ministry.

“From our inspection on those businesses that have been allowed to operate during this conditional MCO, it was found that all have complied to the SOP,” he asserted.

ACP Stanley said as it was rather quiet in the town area during the Raya, they had shifted their attention to housing estates with major concentrations of people.

“We have also found that people in housing estates have also been following the SOP with regard to Raya visiting,’ he said.

Under the government directive, Raya open house was only open to family members of not more than 20 persons at a time.—DayakDaily
