Sibu police mount hunt for suspects involved in bird’s nest theft

SIBU, May 22: Police are on the hunt for suspects who were involved in the theft of bird’s nest worth about RM6,000 from a swiftlet house in Mile 13 Jalan Oya here.

Sibu district police chief ACP Stanley Jonathan Ringgit said the complainant, 57, discovered the theft at around 8.30am yesterday.

“After inspecting the swiftlet house, the complainant found that about two kilograms of bird’s nests worth RM6,000 gone,” he said.

Stanley said the complainant visited his two-storey bird’s nest house every day and the last time he went there was at 2.30pm on Thursday where everything was in good order.

According to him, the swiftlet house was built on his own land 10 years ago.

“The complainant believed that the thief gained entry by making a hole on the side wall,” he added.

The last time the complainant harvested the bird items was in early March this year.

The case is being investigated under Section 457 of the Penal Code for burglary and theft, Stanley said. — DayakDaily
