Sibu police chief: Three shooting victims in stable condition, 10 bullets recovered from scene

Zulkipli (centre) said the case is being thoroughly investigated.

SIBU, Jan 2: The three men who were victims of a shooting incident yesterday are reported to be in stable condition.

Speaking at a press conference today, Sibu district police chief ACP Zulkipli Suhaili said the trio aged between 27 to 33, had injuries on their thigh, leg and hand.

He said the police investigation revealed that the victims were with three friends having a drink at a coffeeshop along Jalan Wong King Huo at about 4.55pm when two unidentified men on two motorcycles showed up.

“One of the suspects fired at close range at the victims while the other one did the same from a distance of 20 metres. They sped off after the shooting,” he added.

Following a report received at about 5.14pm, a police team rushed to the scene.

“We found 10 spent bullets believed to be from semi-automatic pistols used by the suspects,” said ACP Zulkipli.

He said the police had formed an investigation team to look into the motive of the attack under Section 307 of the Penal Code.

“Our crime and investigation department will look at all angles on the motive for the shooting,” he stressed.

Two of the victims, he said, had a 2017 record for violent crime under Section 148 of the Penal Code. One of their three friends had a previous record under Section 324 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt.

Zulkifli appealed to members of the public to contact investigating officer ASP Mingat Bakil at 0198867978 or the nearest police station should they have information on the case. — DayakDaily
