Sibu police arrest four suspects for allegedly robbing foreigner

SIBU, May 27: Police here have arrested four men on suspicion of robbing an Indian national of his belongings on Sunday (May 24).

According to Sibu District Police Chief ACP Stanley Jonathan Ringgit, around 2pm that day, four men approached the 27-year-old victim who was waiting for a friend in front of a hotel at Jalan Chamber.

One of the suspects suddenly punched the victim in the mouth and took away his handphone. The other three suspects took the victim’s other possessions, including RM200 cash, his passport, ATM card, and a seaman’s record book.


The victim who works on a tugboat estimated his loss at RM3,000.

“Following a report lodged by the victim on the same day, the police immediately sprang into action and subsequently arrested four suspects,” Stanley revealed, adding the police had also managed to recover the victim’s handphone which had been sold to a shop.

The case is being investigated under Section 394 of the Penal Code for gang robbery. — DayakDaily
