Sibu police: Action taken against man for allowing 11yo son with autism to drive car

SIBU, June 6: A video has gone viral on social media showing a boy driving a car on Jalan Kampung Nyabor.

The police acting on information about the video later took in both the 11-year-old boy and his father for further investigation.

Sibu district police chief ACP Zulkipli Suhaili said the child’s actions were detected through a viral video that was uploaded on Facebook on June 5 at about 3pm by a member of the public.

“The video shows a vehicle driven by a minor in Jalan Kampung Nyabor,

“On the same day at about 6.50pm, the police managed to track down the boy and his father,” he said.

He added that both the boy and his father were later brought to the police station for investigation and further action.

As a result of the investigation, the police found that the child involved had autism and had a medical record at Sibu Hospital’s Psychiatry Specialist Clinic.

The police have taken action under Section 026(1)B of the Road Transport Act (APJ) 1987 against the father of the boy for allowing him to drive the car.
