KUCHING, Feb 26: Sibu continues to hit the headlines with the only district in the state to register a three-digit figure of 104 new cases out of the total of 250 cases registered statewide today.
According to the reports by State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), Sibu along recorded almost half of the state’s total tally of 250 positive cases in only 24 hours.
Other 18 districts with more Covid-19 cases were Kuching (43), Kapit (39), Meradong (13), Bintulu (10), Betong (9), Miri (8), Samarahan (4), Sebauh (3), Subis (3), Julau (2), Dalat (2), Beluru (2), Selangau (2), Bau (2), Asajaya (1), Serian (1), Saratok (1) and Song (1).
Out of the total, 112 were from close contact screenings across 11 districts namely in Sibu with the most of 75 cases, Kapit (11), Meradong (7), Bintulu (6), Subis (3), Sebauh (3), Selangau (2), Bau (2), Kuching (1), Dalat (1) and Saratok (1).
Other than that, 33 cases were reported from those who went for swab tests at health centres in Sibu (16), Miri (7), Kuching (5), Bintulu (3) and Beluru (2).
Today, 20 symptomatic cases were found in Sibu with 13 cases, Julau (2), Meradong (1), Bintulu (1), Miri (1), Dalat (1) and Asajaya (1).
One import case was detected in Kuching involving a Sarawakian returnee from Kuala Lumpur and another case in Samarahan from Johor.
Moving on, there were a total of 83 new cases related to active clusters in the state today.
The Emperoh Jambu Cluster recorded the highest number of new cases today, with 36 in Kuching and another one in Serian.
Coming next in line, the Gelong Cluster reported 27 Covid-19 cases in Kapit alone.
While nine cases in Betong were traced back to the Jalan Muhibbah Cluster, five cases in Meradong were found related to the Sungai Bakong Cluster.
Adding on, the Jalan Green Cluster had three additional cases in Samarahan while the Pasai Cluster resumed its momentum with one case each in Kapit and Song.
With 250 new Covid-19 cases today, the cumulative number of Covid-19 cases in Sarawak now stands at 9,119.
To make it worse, SDMC also reported two Covid-19 fatality cases involving a 59-year-old male in Betong and a54-year-old male in Bintulu.
They were confirmed to have passed away on Feb 24 and 26, and both patients had medical histories of high blood pressure, diabetes, gout and chronic kidney disease.
With that, the cumulative number of Covid-19 deaths has increased to 80 or 0.88 per cent of total positive cases in Sarawak.
Meanwhile, the committee noted 131 new recoveries who have been discharged from Sibu Hospital (93), Sarawak General Hospital (16), Kapit Hospital (9), Bintulu Hospital (7) and Miri Hospital (6).
In the meantime, 2,385 patients are still receiving treatment in the hospitals across the state.āDayakDaily
