KUCHING, March 25: Thirteen families who were left desolate after losing their homes to an afternoon fire on Friday (March 22) have received a helping hand from Sibu MP Oscar Ling.

Ling gave RM1,000 to each family to ease their burden. The 73 victims have been taking shelter at the Kampung Bahru Mosque in Sibu ever since their four houses were razed to the ground.

The victims only managed to salvage the clothes on their backs as a distress call was made to the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) around 12.07pm.

Bomba dispatched 25 firefighters to the scene and brought the fire under control within 40 minutes. No casualties were reported.

The cause of the fire is still being investigated. — DayakDaily
