Sibu motorcyclist fined, jailed for dangerous ‘wheelie’ stunt

SIBU, July 12: A 30-year-old man has paid a heavy price for performing a ‘wheelie’ stunt on his motorcycle.

Mohamad Amiruddin Syahrum was fined RM5,000 by a Magistrate’s Court today for the offense.

In addition to the fine, the accused was sentenced to one day in prison and banned from holding a riding license for five years.

The incident occurred on July 5 at around 11.30pm when the accused was caught by traffic police for riding a motorcycle recklessly and performing a ‘wheelie’ stunt on Jalan Awang Ramli Amit.

He was charged under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which carries a penalty of up to five years in prison and a fine ranging from RM5,000 to RM15,000.

The section also prohibits an offender from holding a riding license for at least five years if convicted.

According to the case details, traffic police were conducting Ops Samsung to monitor road users and catch traffic offenders on the night of the incident.

At around 11.30pm, the accused was spotted riding dangerously, performing a ‘wheelie’ stunt that endangered himself and other road users.

He was subsequently arrested near the Simpang Tiga Roundabout. — DayakDaily
