KUCHING, Jan 15: Sibu and Miri are on high priority lists to receive the new consignment of 1,530 cartons of personal protective equipment (PPE) which has arrived in Sarawak yesterday.

The supplies will be allocated to Sarawak General Hospital (SGH), State Pharmaceutical Logistic Branch as well as Divisional Pharmacy Offices of Kapit, Limbang, Miri, Sarikei, Sibu and Sri Aman to be distributed.

Minister of Local Government and Housing Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian, in a statement on his Facebook page, welcomed the timely arrival of the supplies consisting 61,200 pieces of PPE.

“Thank you very much to the Sarawak State Health Department for the timely arrival of the supplies imported from China.

“The import of the supplies was arranged by East Coast Freight Forwarded which handled the two previous chartered wide-body air cargo flights from China last year,” he said.

Dr Sim added that the use of the logistic resources demonstrated the close collaboration and solidarity of Sarawak and China in the war against Covid-19.

“Priority and immediate delivery (will be) to Sibu and Miri,” he emphasised.

Sarawak government, he reassured, is always ready to help the State Health Department when necessary even though health is the responsibility of the Federal government “because our fellow Sarawakian lives must come first”.

He once again called on all Sarawakians to stay focused, vigilant and play their roles seriously in fighting the war against Covid-19.

“Together, we shall overcome Covid-19,” he added.
