Sibu man arrested for alleged possession of drugs packaged as juice

SIBU, May 7: A 39-year-old local man has been arrested after drugs packaged as juice drinks were found on him.

Sibu district police chief ACP Zulkipli Suhaili said the arrest was made at 6pm on May 4 at Jalan Teo Loh.

“The results of the inspection on the suspect found 39 sachets of powdered juice suspected to contain a mixture of ecstasy-type drugs with a gross weight of 1,442.4 grams, 53 ecstasy pills weighing 9.40 grams, and 12 cigarettes suspected of containing a mixture of cannabis-type drugs with an estimated gross weight of 21.60 grams,” he said.

Also seized from the suspect were 12 plastic packets containing crystal lumps suspected of ketamine-type drugs weighing 16.70 grams.

The total weight of the drugs was 1,442 grams, worth RM73,615.

Zulkipli said a urine test on the man came back negative for drugs.

The suspect has been remanded for six days to assist in the investigation under Section 39b of the Dangerous Drug Act 1952.

The section provides for a mandatory death sentence if convicted. — DayakDaily
