Sibu, Lawas top the list with 8 new infections each; 26yo man new BID case

KUCHING, Dec 25: Sibu and Lawas jumped to the top of the list with eight new Covid-19 cases each today as Kuching and Miri only recorded three cases each.

This brought the total number of daily infections in Sarawak to 27, an increase from 19 cases reported yesterday.


In a statement, the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said Sarawak also registered one new brought-in-dead (BID) case today involving a 26-year-old man from Sri Aman who passed away on Dec 22.

The man had asthma, obesity, and chronic heart and autoimmune diseases.

Of the total infections reported today, 25 were in Category 1 (no symptoms) and Category 2 (mild symptoms).

Only two cases were categorised as critical; one Category 3 patient who developed pneumonia but can still breathe on their own, and one Category 5 patient who needed a ventilator to breathe.

By district, Sibu and Lawas took the lead with 8 cases each, followed by Kuching and Miri with 3 cases, Bintulu (2), while Limbang, Saratok and Selangau recorded one case each.

Thirty-two other districts in Sarawak did not record any new cases today.

There are no new or active clusters in Sarawak today. ― DayakDaily
