KUCHING, Jan 11: Express boat services plying the Sibu-Kuching route have been suspended until further notice.
State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) advisor Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian said this was announced by the committee in light of Sibu and Kuching districts being declared as Covid-19 red zones just yesterday (Jan 10).
In the SDMC report yesterday, Sibu reported 44 local transmission cases while Kuching reported 41 local cases in the past 14 days. A district is categorised as a Covid-19 red zone when the number of local cases breaches 40 within 14 days.
“Since Kuching and Sibu districts are now declared as Covid-19 red zones, the Sibu-Kuching express boat route is temporarily suspended until further notice,” he said via a post on his Telegram channel today.
Adding on, Dr Sim urged members of the public not to panic and to play their role in taking care of personal hygiene.
“Panic doesn’t help. Actions are the only way to stop transmission. Focus on playing your role and doing your part and please avoid travelling unless absolutely necessary,” he remarked. — DayakDaily
