KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 11: Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin is expected to make an announcement on the implementation of the Movement Control Order (MCO) at 6 pm today (Jan 11).
The time of the announcement was disclosed by the Prime Minister’s Office.
Last Friday (Jan 8), Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob during a press conference said the prime minister will make a special announcement today regarding the action to be taken by the government to address the surge in Covid-19 cases in the country.
He said the government is constantly monitoring the situation and is concerned over the current trend where positive Covid-19 cases have jumped to four digits daily since the end of November 2020 to a record high of 3,027 cases reported last Thursday (Jan 7).
He added the government was studying and evaluating the actions that need to be taken immediately to control the transmission of Covid-19, including possible tightening of the standard operating procedure (SOP) for the social sector to reduce movements and risk of Covid-19.
Ismail Sabri said the government is aware of the people’s grouses, concerns and suggestions regarding the surge in Covid-19 cases and understands the burden faced by healthcare workers. — DayakDaily
