SIBU, Feb 16: Junior Chamber International (JCI) Sibu presented 2,000 pieces of face mask to the public in view of the novel coronavirus (Covid-19) outbreak.

The masks were given away to the public at the central market today.

Local community leader Kapitan Connie Loh, who was the main sponsor of the event, said in giving out the face mask, they were taking the opportunity to raise public awareness on the outbreak of the disease.

“We want to remind the people to take precaution in practicing good hygiene such as washing their hands regularly, avoid touching their face and keeping a close watch on their body temperature,” she said.

Loh added that it was important to keep abreast of news and development on the outbreak of the disease.

“Should anyone fall sick, the person should seek treatment as soon as possible and wear a mask in order not to spread the virus to others, even if it is just a normal flu because it is important to stay healthy during this time,” she continued.

She said though the state was still free from the disease, it was important to be careful as it had spread across the globe to many countries and places.

“While there is nothing much we can do about it, we must at least be sure that we take the necessary precautionary measures in order to protect our homeland from this deadly disease,” she said. — DayakDaily
