SIBU, March 12: Nine of the 10 residents of Sibu Benevolent Society and Nursing Home who were found positive with Covid-19 on Feb 14 have recovered.

The 10 included eight residents of the home while the other two were staff members. The Nursing Home has 30 residents and 10 staff.

Vice-chairman of the nursing home, Robert Chew, said today that they had been discharged from Sibu Hospital last week.

“Earlier on, one of them, a resident, had to be intubated but he too was among those who had recovered and discharged from the hospital,” he said.

Only one resident, a 70-year-old woman, is still receiving treatment at the hospital.

A medical team came to the centre on the second day of the Chinese New Year to carry out a swab test on all residents and staff. On Sunday (Feb14), 10 of them were found positive with the coronavirus and were admitted.

On the other residents and staff who were quarantined at the centre for 14 days, though they were tested negative with the virus, Chew said their quarantine order had been extended by another 10 days.

“We decided that they should be further quarantined in a separate dormitory for safety reasons,” he said.

The Home, he said, remains closed for visitors until further notice. – DayakDaily
