KUCHING, March 7: Sibu maintains its status as the district with the most Covid-19 cases in the state, accounting for 75 new cases among the total 201 reported statewide today, due mostly to the emergence of two new active clusters.
According to reports by the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), 44 positive cases in Sibu were traced back to the new Jalan Awang and Kiba Clusters while the remaining 31 were community cases detected via close contact tracing at health facilities and among medical officers.
Other districts seeing new Covid-19 cases for the day are Kapit (37), Bau (18), Miri (16), Kuching (12), Betong (9), Bintulu (8), Sri Aman (8), Serian (7), Selangau (3), Julau (2), Lundu (2), Meradong (1), Pusa (1), Samarahan (1) and Sarikei (1).
Out of the total, 103 cases were detected via close contact screening across 13 districts namely Sibu (27), Kapit (18), Bau (18), Miri (13), Sri Aman (8), Serian (6), Bintulu (5), Selangau (3), Kuching (1), Betong (1), Lundu (1), Pusa (1) and Sarikei (1).
Nine cases comprised individuals who too swab tests at health centres in Kuching (3), Bintulu (2), Miri (1), Lundu (1), Samarahan (1) and Meradong (1).
Today, only three symptomatic cases were found across the state — two in Sibu and one in Miri.
Meanwhile, two frontliners in Sibu and one in a Miri health facility were reported as being infected with Covid-19 in the most recent 24-hour reporting period.
Meanwhile, one Sarawakian each in Kuching and Bintulu who tested positive for the coronavirus were reported to have just returned from Selangor and Johor respectively.
There was a total of 81 new cases related to active clusters reported in the state today.
Other clusters with new cases are the Gelong Cluster with 19 cases, Jalan Muhibbah Cluster with eight cases, Emperoh Jambu Cluster with seven cases, Bukit Tunggal Cluster with two cases, and Jalan Ho Pin Cluster with one case.
With 201 new Covid-19 cases reported today, the cumulative number of Covid-19 cases in Sarawak now stands at 11,096.
SDMC also disclosed there were 196 recoveries across the state in Sibu Hospital (118), Bintulu Hospital (22), Sarikei Hospital (22), Sarawak General Hospital (19), Kapit Hospital (10) and Miri Hospital (5).
A total of 2,377 patients are still receiving treatment in various hospitals across the state. — DayakDaily
