Sharp drop in new Covid-19 cases in Kuching as Sarawak sees 1,037 new cases

KUCHING, Oct 11: New Covid-19 cases in Kuching dropped sharply to 191 today compared to 325 reported yesterday although the district retained its top position as the district with the highest number of new infections as Sarawak reported 1,037 new Covid-19 cases today.

According to an update on the Covid-19 situation in Sarawak by the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) today, 1.83 per cent of the total new cases reported or 19 cases were in Categories 3, 4 and 5.

The balance of 98.17 per cent or 1,018 cases were in Categories 1 and 2.


Adding on, SDMC said seven Covid-19 patients required breathing support while eight Covid-19 patients were intubated.

There were 701 Covid-19 patients with mild symptoms and 317 asymptomatic Covid-19 patients.

With this, the cumulative number of novel coronavirus cases in Sarawak has increased to 225,676.

Thirty-six out of 40 districts in the State reported new cases.

Kuching saw the biggest increase with 191 cases followed by Miri with 175 cases and Sibu with 112 cases.

This was followed by Sri Aman with 61 cases, Bintulu (57), Limbang (38), Pusa (36), Mukah (33), Serian (30), Saratok (30), Lawas (29), Betong (24), Kanowit (23), Sarikei (22), Bau (21), Samarahan (20), Lundu (20), Kapit (17), Dalat (16), Simunjan (11) and Meradong (11).

Meanwhile, areas that registered single-digit case counts comprised Matu with nine cases, Lubok Antu (8), Subis (7), Pakan (6), Tanjung Manis (4), Asajaya (4), Sebauh (4), Bukit Mabong (4), Telang Usan (3), Kabong (3), Tatau (3), Julau (2), Selangau (1), Beluru (1) and Tebedu (1).
