KUCHING, Sept 13: Rotary Club Urban Kuching (RCUK) and Latter-day Saint Charities (LDS Charities) have partnered to improve healthcare services at Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) and Sentosa Hospital through the donation of surgical and medical equipment valued at RM1.95 million.
According to a press handout by RCUK, SGH can now be assured of the availability of cataract operations in rural areas as well as the ability to perform more effective orthopedic operations, while Sentosa Hospital can now provide better patient care.
The surgical equipment for SGH, valued at RM1.25 million, consists of surgical instruments for orthopedic surgeries as well as cataract surgical equipment that helps to equip the mobile cataract operation bus that is used to reach communities that lack access to the necessary treatment.
As for Sentosa Hospital, the medical equipment valued at RM700,000, includes electrocardiography, electroconvulsive equipment, vital sign monitoring machines, beds, mattresses, pillows, and other items.
The total cost of the ‘Deliver Health’ project is RM1.95 million, emphasising the significance of doing something meaningful made possible by the contributions of many parties.
The handover ceremony was witnessed by Deputy Premier of Sarawak Dato Sri Dr Sim Kui Hian today at Chemsains, Jalan Rock here, in the presence of LDS Charities representatives Elder Sandy Hall and Sister Ardella Hall, members of both hospitals, and Rotarians.
RCUK president Andre Suharto expressed gratitude to LDS Charities for being able to sponsor the cost of the donated items. He also thanked SGH director Dr Ngian Hie Ung and her team of surgeons for sharing the list of required items.
Meanwhile, Dr Sim acknowledged LDS Charities consistent support for Sarawak’s communities, highlighting the organisation’s contributions to similar healthcare projects in the past, as well as the proactiveness of RCUK in taking on such meaningful projects despite only being incorporated and operational for 10 months.
Furthermore, LDS Charities representatives, Sandy Hall and Ardella Hall, commended the Sarawak government for encouraging private entities to make contributions to the community. — DayakDaily
