KUCHING, Feb 27: The 100-metre long Sungai Paku Bridge at Tanjung Sebekut, Spaoh, is seeing a 6.71 per cent delay in construction and is expected to be completed on Dec 21, 2023.

The RM26.75 million project commenced on May 6, 2021, and was initially expected to be completed on Nov 5, 2023.

Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said, based on understanding from the Public Works Department (JKR), the delay was due to slow progress, late arrival of construction materials, and delayed delivery of machinery.

Meanwhile, the Bebuling Airport project also saw an 18.99 per cent delay in its construction project due to late delivery of machinery and bad weather.

“The RM108 million project was scheduled to be completed on Sept 17 this year.

“But the contractor had now resolved the issue and is catching up on the delay with sufficient machinery and manpower at the site,” he said following a briefing by Betong JKR today.

For the delays, Uggah strongly urged JKR to closely monitor the ongoing projects, including the Debak-Tuie Road in Spaoh, to ensure on-time delivery.

All contractors were also advised to comply with all the terms and conditions of their contracts. — DayakDaily
