SIBU, Nov 25: A 10-door building housing factory workers at Primula Terbilang Plantation in Batang Lassa was destroyed in a fire early this morning.
According to the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) operations centre, the call for help was received at 12.30am.
A team of 10 firefighters from the Sungai Merah station was deployed to the scene, located some 47km away.
Upon arrival, commanding officer PB Johnny Anyom reported a fire involving a non-permanent structure of 100 ft x 14 ft which was completely destroyed by the blaze.
Earlier, firefighters faced difficulties in accessing the site due to the narrow and damaged road heading into the plantation.
At one point, they had no choice but to park the fire engine at the road side and move as many firefighting equipment as they could into a 4WD vehicle to continue the journey.
From there, they travelled another 17km to reach the scene.
At the site, the firefighters faced the challenge of extinguishing the fire as there was no hydrant or nearby water source.
However, they managed to pump water from a drain to extinguish what remained of the fire.
The fire was brought under control at 2am and no casualties were reported.
The cause of the fire and losses incurred are still under investigation. — DayakDaily
