KUCHING, Aug 20: Sarawak Forest Department (SFD) and Leadership Institute (LI) of Sarawak Civil Service planted 1,500 bintangor, kapur, and meranti tree saplings at the Sabal Forest Reserve.
According to SFD, in a statement today, LI acting chief executing officer Fang Tze Chiang said the planting programme is one of their corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives to preserve and protect the State’s forests and its resources.
“We also plan to adopt any suitable area to carry out tree planting activities in the future, and we are ready to be a strategic partner for SFD to ensure the programme runs successfully,” he said.
Meanwhile, SFD deputy director Jack Liam, representing SFD director Datu Hamden Mohammad, said SFD had recorded the largest number of tree plantings in Malaysia, which is 14,197,474 (14.197 million), from Jan 5, 2021 to Aug 10, 2022.
He added that they have already reached 40.5 per cent of the target of 35 million trees for the five-year period. (2021-2025).
About 50 FDS and LI staff members, including their family members, took part in the programme. — DayakDaily
