ABU DHABI, Nov 7: Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC) and Mubadala Energy, a global energy company based in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), have signed a collaboration agreement to work together on a mangrove rewilding pilot project in Kuching Wetland National Park.
Speaking on the initiative, Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, emphasised that its goal was to ensure that the development of the energy sector does not negatively impact ecosystems and biodiversity, particularly wildlife in Sarawak.
“The collaboration between SFC and Mubadala Energy focuses on conservation and environmental preservation. Our aim is to strike a balance, ensuring that while we develop the energy sector, it does not harm our environment, especially our wildlife.
“This includes forest conservation, and on that basis, there have been exchanges of ideas between energy producers, including SFC, to protect our forests and habitats,” he was quoted saying in an exclusive interview with Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas) and TVS after attending the Abu Dhabi International Petroleum Exhibition and Conference (ADIPEC) 2024 at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC) yesterday (Nov 6).
Earlier, Abang Johari together with Mubadala Energy Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Managing Director Sheikh Mansoor Mohammed Al Hamed witnessed the collaboration agreement signing ceremony.
The agreement was signed by SFC CEO, Abang Arabi Abang Aimran, and Mubadala Energy Executive Vice President of Technical and Decarbonisation, Khalfan Al Mansoori.
Also present were Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, Sarawak Minister for Utility and Telecommunication (MUT) Dato Sri Julaihi Narawi, Sarawak Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki, Sarawak Deputy Minister for Urban Planning, Land Administration and Environment Datuk Len Talif Salleh, Sarawak Deputy Minister for Energy and Environmental Sustainability (MEESty) Datuk Dr Hazland Abang Hipni, along with other senior officials of the Sarawak government.
