SIBU, Aug 4: Several roads here will be closed for the Sibu Street Parade rehearsals on August 10 and 11 and on the day of the event on August 12.
Speaking at a press conference today, Sibu district police chief ACP Zulkipli Suhaili said that the roads would be closed from 5pm until the programme ends for the rehearsals and the actual event.
These affected roads are:
- Bulatan Rosli Dhoby/Jalan Bujang Suntung
- Kampung Dato traffic light
- Jalan Agung (behind RH Hotel)
- Lorong Maybank (beside RH Hotel)
- Jalan Brooke Drive
- Jalan Sanyan
- Jalan Ramin
- Jalan Lintang
- Jalan Sentral
- Premier Hotel traffic light
- Sibu Gateway traffic light
- Lebuh Tanahmas (in front of Premier Hotel)
“This is to ensure the smooth process of the street parade in conjunction with Sarawak’s 60th year of independence,” he said.
The parade will be participated by 60 contingents. It will start from Dataran Tun Tuanku Bujang Phase 2 to Jalan Kampung Nyabor, RH Hotel, Jalan Sanyan, Jalan Lintang, Sibu Heritage Centre, Jalan Bengkel, Sibu Central Market, Sibu Night Market, Jalan Pulau, and will end in front of Chiang Corridor.
“We advise the public to park their vehicles at designated areas, namely Jalan Kampung Dato, Jalan Tunku Osman, and Jalan Awang Ramli Amit,” he said.
Zulkipli also reminded the public to avoid parking by the roadside and adhere to the traffic control signs directed by on-duty policemen.
