KUCHING, Sept 26: Several roads in Kuching will be closed for the State-level Maulidur Rasul procession this Thursday (Sept 28) at Padang Merdeka.
According to a press release, Kuching District Police chief ACP Ahsmon Bajah said the road closures will start at 5.30am until the procession ends.
The affected roads are:
- Jalan Gambier/Market/Power/Masjid/P. Ramlee
- RTM traffic light (Jalan Tun Abang Haji Openg/Satok)
- Jalan Main Bazaar
- Jalan Lebuh Wayang/Jalan Wawasan
- Jalan McDougall
- Jalan Haji Taha
- Jalan Julas Utara 2
- Jalan Muhibbah
- Jalan Muda Hashim
- Jalan Satok
- Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman
- Jalan Chan Chin Ann
- Jalan Song Thian Cheok
- Jalan Ban Hock
- Ban Hock roundabout
- St Mary’s school traffic light
“The procession will comprise 10,285 participants from 240 contingents. It will start and end at Padang Merdeka,” Ahsmon said.
He added that Head of State Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud is expected to attend the procession, with rehearsals held today from 8am until completion.
Those who wish to watch the procession are advised to park their vehicles at the following locations:
- Bangunan Saujana parking lot
- Plaza Aurora
- Reservoir Park
- Dewan Suarah
- Majma Mall
“Members of the public are reminded not to park their vehicles by the roadside to avoid disrupting traffic flow, as well as to follow the instructions from the officers on duty,” Ahsmon said.
